Beginner’s Day
Beginner’s Day is designed to introduce new users to WordPress. WordCamp volunteers will teach you how to use prepare your site locally using Desktop Server on your computer so you’ll be ready for the weekend.

What you should bring
To get the most out of Beginner’s Day, you should bring a modern Mac or Windows laptop and power cable and install Desktop Server before attending Beginner’s Day. The free limited version will work for what we will cover.
Things to consider
Desktop Server’s Minimum System Requirements
- Windows 7, 8, 10
- Macintosh OS X 10.10.X to 10.14.X.
- At least 500 megabytes of free hard drive space for installation.
Desktop Server will not run on a mobile device such as an iPad, Android tablet or smartphone.
*Lunch will not be provided during Friday’s session. We will provide snacks but you may want to bring a packed lunch.

Issa has owned a recording studio, founded a record label, toured the world in a punk band, and launched an MTV star. Luckily he was also a lifelong computer nerd and 15 years ago turned his coding side-gig into a full time profession. Mechanic, Racer, Author: Bob Marshall is just a man out to have a little fun and share his story’s along the way. The release of his novel and podcast show: American Road Runner, ables him to do all of this, enjoying some other good stories along the way. With his family race team, ‘Flying Marshall Racing’ and his Son for a Crew Chief, most weekends are spent wrenching on and/or racing old motorcycles for land-speed, flat-track, little bike and cross country chopper racing; the most unpopular types of motorcycle racing in the world. Bob lives and works in Riverside California in a little old house across the street from where he was born. He has not moved far but the road calls to him often and he answers that call fast. Travel is always adventure on 2 wheels, with friends in most states there is always miles of road to run on and new places to explore.

Sumner Davenport
Sumner specializes in Web Accessibility on WordPress. Through her long-standing organization, she and her team build, maintain, evaluate and remediate WordPress websites to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards. She consistently reviews legal documents related to web accessibility lawsuits and communicates with attorneys on both sides of the issue.
She is active in accessibility and legal conferences and educational venues, including Small Business conferences, WordCamp and local WordPress groups where she regularly speaks on topics related to compliance issues for WordPress websites. She is popularly known for her presentation “Compliance, Traps & Trolls.” Sumner provides presentations to business groups on the benefits, importance and overall value of having an accessible website and conducts ongoing educational events for web designers who use WordPress, so they can better understand the ease and value of inclusive design and accessibility. She also teaches designers and DIYers who use WordPress the steps to remediating a WordPress site. She is a member of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) and several industry specific associations.

It’s not a surprise that Amy Hall is referred to as the MacGyver of MailChimp. For the last ten years, Amy has been taking content management out of the hands of business owners who are already juggling too many tasks. Not only is she a certified MailChimp Partner & Expert, but she builds WordPress websites, manages content marketing for small businesses, and provides hands-on Mailchimp training.
When it comes to speaking, Amy is a natural. After all, she started the Carlsbad WordPress Meetup. Amy is in her element when showing WordPress users how to optimize their forms, perfect their lead generation, and make their WordPress sites perform.
